Kate Ellison landed the top two places in the Nupafeed Supplements Senior Discovery Second Round at Chard Equestrian in Somerset, to claim finalist places for Magnum I and Macho Boy T at the British Showjumping National Championships.
Forty-two competitors originally set out to post qualifying treble clears and, with 31 supplying initial clears over the 1.05m track, the aim was clearly high. Ten were lost on the way in round two for a jump-off of 31.
No-one could match the determination and skill of Kate as she secured not only the top spot aboard Magnum I with an inside turn after the double but second as well with Macho Boy T, 0.59 seconds separating the two.
Taryn Langley’s Fly x Mareno 6-year-old mare Magnum joined Beaminster, Dorset-based Kate last nine months ago.
She was very green and had only done a couple of British Novice classes but Taryn is too busy with the racehorses to produce her so asked me to take her on and she hasn’t looked back since – she’s small, buzzy and loves to jump and win,” said Kate. “This was a bit of a step down for her, but it was a nice class to do.”
The Dallas VDL x L’Esprit 6-year-old Macho Boy T was purchased by Kate as an unbroken 3-year-old from Mark Bosanko.
“He’s the first horse I’ve bought unbroken. I think a lot of him but he’s a big horse – out of the same mare as Olli Fletcher’s [three-star International ride] Garande – and as he’s mine I can put him on the back burner and give him the time he needs,” said Kate.
Kate has qualified three horses for the British Showjumping National Championships Final, Faye Bee will also travel to Stoneleigh in August after posting the steadiest of the treble clears to pick up qualification.
